| The Taranaki landscape is dominated by the symmetrical volcano of the same name, with rivers radiating down through mystical rain forests across emerald-green pastures and black sand beaches stretching for mile after deserted mile to the Tasman Sea. The region has witnessed 2000 years of thriving Maori culture and one hundred and sixty years of western civilisation which has left a legacy of villages and towns and agricultural cultivation, but most of it remains untamed. Hollywood, however, has discovered that for an exotic remote look that is very accessible to infrastructural needs, Taranaki was the ideal location to shoot the new Tom Cruise epic "The Last Samurai" directed by Ed Zwick. Kiwi filmmakers Vincent Ward [Vigil] and Anthony McCarten [Show of Hands] are also taking advantage of working within a positive community, one that is not jaded by the filming experience. More recently, international TVC makers have discovered the variety of lush green landscapes to their liking, coupled with an ease of working. This is what the filmmakers have to say about it, We assist in location scouting, infrastructural information, developing local resources, consents approvals and generally making our region a Film friendly environment to work in. So if you're interested to find out more about the Taranaki experience you can either call, Charlie, Lilly or Tom, or you can call or email Peter at peter@venture.org.nz we're here to help you make the movie you really want to make.
